Supportive therapy in haematology and oncology
This manual on supportive measures in oncology and haematology has been completely revised. It is intended to provide clinical guidelines for all subject areas involved in the care of oncology patients.
Management of side effects
Supportive therapy is a prerequisite for successful therapy which places little burden on the patients. Preservation of quality of life and alleviation of symptoms are the focus of supportive measures. Extremely significant in this context are therefore knowledge and management of side effects, including dealing with and therapy for anaemia, nausea and vomiting, tumour lysis syndrome, dermatological side effects, haemostaseological complications, cytostatic extravasation and pain.
Prophylaxis and therapy of infections
Severe complications of immunological responses are consequences for patients in haemato-oncology of the underlying disease and treatment. The latest knowledge on infection diagnostics, prophylaxis and therapy are addressed in separate chapters.
Fertility protection
Due to the improved chances of survival for patients fertility protection is meanwhile an important topic, especially for young patients. This manual contains information about fertility-preserving measures for oncology patients.
